Dan 2:31-45 and Lk 21:5-11 remind us that nothing in the world lasts forever, so where must the Christian find stability? Every disciple is challenged each day to put down roots in Christ as "the rock" of salvation rather than in worldly realities that are passing away. The kingdom of God is not of this world, and the Christian disciple dwells in this kingdom by not letting the world steal his or her peace. Rather, the life of prayer, study of the Word, and building relationships of love deepens this peace, and by being rooted in Christ the rock we are able to be "rock" to others, sharing this peace and encouraging them in the midst of turbulent times.
