Christ the King: Disinterested love for the sake of the world

November 24, 2019

We are all looking for a leader in our lives, and are rightly disappointed by the failure of earthly leaders. Christian disciples understand that this longing for leadership can only be met in Jesus Christ as the True King. The Good Thief recognized Jesus' kingship from the cross: the disinterested lover who earned the right to rule through his death and resurrection. Disciples of this king are called to practice a similar disinterestedness towards the world through appropriate detachment, but are also called to act out of this disinterestedness for the good of others.

-Given at the St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel at UST-St. Paul on November 24, 2019, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
